Star Chart — Privacy Policy

Last updated: 19 July 2026

Star Chart (“the App,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a family star-chart and reward tracker published by Stephen Beck. We designed Star Chart to be family-friendly and to collect as little information as possible. This policy explains what the App handles, why, and the choices you have.

If you have any questions, contact us at star.tracking.app@gmail.com.

1. Who this App is for

Star Chart is intended to be set up and managed by parents, guardians, and other trusted adults (for example co-parents, sitters, or teachers). Children may use the App on a shared or handed-over device to view their stars and ask for stars. Adult-only actions — shopping, links out of the App, and settings — are placed behind a parental gate.

2. Information the App handles

Family content you enter

To make the App work, you may enter and store:

You are in control of what you type in. We ask you not to enter more personal information about a child than you need (for example, a first name or nickname is enough).

Anonymous account identifier

To sync your family’s data across devices, the App signs in using anonymous authentication provided by Google Firebase. This creates a random identifier for your device. It does not require or collect an email address, password, phone number, or real name, and it is not used to identify you personally.

Information stored only on your device

Face ID / Touch ID

If you enable biometric unlock, authentication is handled entirely by Apple on your device. The App is only told whether unlock succeeded or failed. We never receive or store your biometric data.

3. How the information is used

We use the information above only to:

We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell or rent it. The App contains no third-party advertising or analytics SDKs.

4. How information is shared

Google Firebase

The App uses Google Firebase (Authentication and Cloud Firestore) to sync and store your family data. Google processes this data on our behalf as a service provider, and it is stored on Google Cloud servers. See Google’s Firebase Privacy and Security information for details.

Amazon links

The App may let an adult browse product ideas and open Amazon in your device’s browser or the Amazon app. Opening a product takes you to Amazon, where Amazon’s own Privacy Notice applies. We may include an affiliate tag on these links, which can earn us a small commission if you make a purchase, at no extra cost to you. Purchases happen entirely on Amazon — the App never receives your payment details. These links are placed behind a parental gate.

Legal reasons

We may disclose information if required to do so by law or to protect the rights, safety, or property of our users or others.

5. Children’s privacy

We take children’s privacy seriously and aim to comply with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and similar laws.

If you believe a child has provided us with personal information and you would like it removed, please contact us at star.tracking.app@gmail.com and we will delete it.

6. Data retention and deletion

You control your data:

7. Security

We use reasonable measures to protect your information, including on-device Keychain storage for sensitive values, optional PIN/biometric locking, and Firebase’s access controls. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure, but we work to protect your data.

8. Data location

Data synced through Firebase is stored on Google Cloud infrastructure and may be processed in the United States or other countries where Google operates.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above and post the new version at this URL.
