Unison.io

An ambitious, exploratory, SaaS-y deep dive into user stories and usability within groups seeking better methods of organization.

Building the Framework

Therefore, a system was needed to allow the group admins to deliver and track these functionalities – now called "action items" – to group members. This would be done by packaging these action items in "cards", which admins could address to specified group members and use to track their progress.

Iteration 1.2

Iteration 4.6

We built an ecosystem around these action item cards, making them the center of a multi-tiered personnel organization system.

UX/UI Design: User & Admin

We flushed out all of the user stories, UI, and UX, both from member and admin perspectives, for desktop and mobile, mocked them up, and passed them to the dev team.

I embarked on a whole lotta mockups, solving for project requirements and user stories. Here are a handful of examples from my trello board:

Design Systems

While developing all the UX/UI designs, I also committed to and organized all the design components in a design system.

Honing the Product

User interviews revealed admins wanted a calendar and a way to create and track events, so I designed a calendar which integrated with the action item paradigm.

User feedback also showed us that users were feeling a little lost upon sign in, so I added an outstanding action item notification icon in the top right of the home screen, to give the UX more conceptual cohesion, and users a clear call to action.

User interviews also revealed that the card paradigm was confusing to users. So we decided to package the action items in an email format, which subsequent user testing validated as more familiar and useable than the card model.

Unison Now

Unison.io is providing value to a growing userbase, and the action item/email paradigm we developed through extensive prototyping and user testing has now been incorporated into Rotunda’s other platforms. Way to go, team!

The scope of my work on Unison was very broad. While it mostly focused on UI/UX design, it also included competitive analysis, market analysis, web design, and icon design. Please feel free to reach out if you'd like more information on my work with Unison!
